CEPSA's activities in Algeria are mainly focused on the exploration and production of crude oil and natural gas.

CEPSA currently operates two fields located in Block 406 A in the Berkine Basin of the Algerian Sahara, under a production-sharing contract with the Algerian national oil company,SONATRACH.

The first of these discoveries, Rhourde El Khrouf (RKF) fully within Block 406 A, is presently producing approximately 20,000 BOPD.

In order to expand the company's presence in the natural gas business, CEPSA entered into a consortium headed by TOTAL, which was awarded gas exploration and production permits in the Timimoun Basin in July 2002 and in the Bechar Basin in December 2003 .

Furthermore, CEPSA and SONATRACH set up the company MEDGAZ. with other major European energy companies also acquiring shareholdings, to carry out the feasibility study and promote the construction of a new gas pipeline linking Algeria and Europe via Spain .
